Nakim and Pema have taken the first step of establishing TRICITY STUDIO in Nepal. Set up with the business model of Hollywood studios TriCity Pictures has launched the first Nepali-Hollywood action motion picture ‘The Man From Kathmandu’. The studio will eventually go international with co-productions and productions that are for worldwide audience.
Nakim Udin is a pioneer when it comes to cinema in Nepal. He is not only known for his ground-breaking films produced by his production company but also in cinema exhibition. Kagbeni, Sano Sansar Nepali films and QFX movie theaters are words synonymous with quality and in turn with Nakim. Now Labim Mall has become a landmark in Kathmandu. A humble man with a humble beginning Nakim aspires best not for himself but for his native country. He believes there is much the small nation can achieve but we should first dream, have a vision and then raise up our sleeves to achieve them, he says.
Pema Dhondup is a filmmaker based in Hollywood. He studied in India and began working for a leading music company before switching to media. Pema came to Los Angeles as a Fulbright Scholar to study filmmaking. He joined the famous film program at USC film school from where legends like Spielberg, George Lucas, Ron Howard and many others have graduated. He received his MFA degree in directing and writing and was chosen one of the four most talented filmmakers from his batch.
He wrote, co-produced and directed the first Tibetan feature film titled ‘WE’RE NO MONKS’ with Bollywood star Gulshan Grover in the lead. There after Pema floated his production company in L.A and has been making documentaries, short films, Ads, music videos. He has several films in development both in Hollywood and Bollywood.
